Virtual Newsletter about Software Freedom September 20, 2024 The State of Big Tech Big Tech is in a confusing state right now. Google is about to be seperated, which will make FOSS/Federated services grow. AI is all over the place, which will affect workers and consumers. Last but not least, software freedom on the internet may not exist after KOSA passes. If Google actually starts dying, then the future will be free software. Although other companies such as Apple are big vendors too. So what will happen is confusing. I've been reading the DuckDuckGo Privacy Weekly newsletter, and they are talking a lot about Google. Another part of big tech that NO ONE takes action of, is school technology. For example, GoGuardian. A proprietary and flawed content blocking system that spies on their users. But unlike other tech companies, there's no escape. It's required for schools. It is sad how much the world depends on stuff they don't even know what it does. In the workplace, proprietary software is also required. Most jobs require to use proprietary portals/proprietary apps. KOSA is even worse, because now the government can censor the internet freely. With KOSA, proprietary software is required in order to verify our age. Privacy will be gone if that happens. Tor will be required to visit most sites. This is not helpful for either minors, nor adults. It ruins the internet for everyone but the government. - NexusSfan --- Sources: https://redflagmachine.com/research/ - CC BY 3.0 US https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/07/kosa-internet-censorship-bill-just-passed-senate-its-our-last-chance-stop-it - CC BY 3.0 US --- --- Copyright (c) 2024 NexusSfan Except where otherwise noted, this work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License A copy of the license is included at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0 ---
