Virtual Newsletter about Software Freedom January 18, 2026 Sonic DE: Continuing X11 support for KDE ---------------------------------------- KDE has recently decided to drop support for X11. It's because Wayland is more "modern". I don't support this decision because Wayland compatibility is really bad.[1] There are also a lot of other problems with Wayland. Because of this, a fork called Sonic DE was created[2]. Sonic DE's goal is to allow you to continue using KDE, but on X11. This is nice, as many devices can't run Wayland due to many issues with it. I personally use IceWM, but I'm sure if I were still using KDE, I would switch to Sonic DE. - NexusSfan [1] https://absurdlysuspicious.github.io/wayland-protocols-table/ [2] https://github.com/Sonic-DE --- Copyright (c) 2026 NexusSfan Except where otherwise noted, this work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License A copy of the license is included at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0 ---
