Virtual Newsletter about Software Freedom Febuary 27, 2026 Age Verification for Operating Systems -------------------------------------- I've heard a story of how age verification is coming to operating systems. This is required by a new California law. Now, some OSes are already taking action by blocking people in California from using it. But I don't think this is something to worry about at all. The problem with this is that free software is not affected. There's no way to enforce this on free software operating systems. An example, FreeDOS. FreeDOS has no internet connection and no multi-user system. How are you supposed to use age verification? There's not really a way. That's why I doubt anybody will care. It's unenforcable. They're only doing this so that they can get Google, Apple, etc. to add age verification. - NexusSfan --- Copyright (c) 2026 NexusSfan Except where otherwise noted, this work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License A copy of the license is included at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0 ---
