Virtual Newsletter about Software Freedom March 16, 2025 IP is great but horrible ------------------------ IP is the backbone of the TCP/IP internet stack, but there are some flaws. The IP addresses are controlled by the ICANN and IANA. DNS is also controlled by those two organizations. Now the reason that IP sucks is because of ARPANET. ARPANET was never intended to be used at such a wide scale like TCP/IP is. Because of that ARPANET kinda sucked and now TCP/IP sucks as well. GNUnet is a solution, but it's having some trouble. With GNUnet, it fixes everything with TCP/IP, except that it's currently in early development at this time. Maybe later I will try GNUnet. Now alternative protocols from TCP also exist but they are not used much because of trouble with firewalls. If you really want to create your own protocol just build it on top of UDP or TCP. Maybe the real solution was TP/IX all along. ;) - NexusSfan --- Copyright (c) 2025 NexusSfan Except where otherwise noted, this work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License A copy of the license is included at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0 ---
