Virtual Newsletter about Software Freedom August 19, 2025 Android on GNU/Linux... ----------------------- This singular topic is crazy. The Android platform, HAS NOT, and WILL NOT, EVER, get a native emulator for it. There will never be ANYTHING as good as ArcVM. We've had LAZY projects like WayDroid run in containers/emulators. Also, WayDroid doesn't even work properly on my device. Anbox was close to making it... but didn't. There is not a SINGLE thing that works as well as ArcVM. But nobody, and I mean NOBODY, wants to port it to GNU/Linux for some reason. So we all have to use either BlissOS or... wait no... just BlissOS, because fydeOS is proprietary. There WAS Windows Subsystem for Android, but that's ONLY for Windows, obviously. Yes, I do know of the only program that can run Android natively and is Free Software. But it is ONLY for MINECRAFT: POCKET EDITION. This is insane. Native Android on GNU/Linux would be an awesome thing. But these developers are never going to get around to doing such. Every single project I've found is either app specific, proprietary, or NOT native. - NexusSfan --- Copyright (c) 2025 NexusSfan Except where otherwise noted, this work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License A copy of the license is included at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0 ---
